Characterization and biological prospects of various calcined temperature-V2O5 nanoparticles synthesized by Citrus hystrix fruit extract

In this study, a simple green synthesis of vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles (VNPs) was prepared by the extract of Kaffir lime fruit (Citrus hystrix) as a green reducing and stabilizing agent, along with the investigation of calcination temperature was carried out at 450 and 550 °C. It was affirmed that, at higher temperature (550 °C), the VNPs possessed a high degree crystalline following the construction of (001) lattice diffraction within an increase in crystalline size from 47.12 to 53.51 nm, although the band gap of the materials at 450 °C was lower than that of the VNPs-550 (2.53 versus 2.66 eV, respectively). Besides, the materials were assessed for the potential bioactivities toward antibacterial, antifungal, DNA cleavage, anti-inflammatory, and hemolytic performances. As a result, the antibacterial activity, with minimal inhalation concentration (MIC) < 6.25 μg/mL for both strains, and fungicidal one of the materials depicted the dose-dependent effects. Once, both VNPs exhibited the noticeable efficacy of the DNA microbial damage, meanwhile, the outstanding anti-inflammatory agent was involved with the IC50 of 123.636 and 227.706 μg/mL, accounting for VNPs-450 and VNPs-550, respectively. Furthermore, this study also demonstrated the hemolytic potential of the VNPs materials. These consequences declare the prospects of the VNPs as the smart and alternative material from the green procedure in biomedicine.

Investigation on structural, optical, thermal, and dielectric properties of nanocomposite films based on chitosan containing vanadium pentoxide/zinc oxide and their potential for optoelectronics devices

Chitosan (Cs), zinc oxide (ZnO), and vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles (NPs) have been used to create ternary nanocomposite materials to improve their optical and electrical characterization. Physical methods have been used to investigate the effects of varying vanadium pentoxide nanoparticle contents on the optical and electrical characterization of the prepared films. In the X-ray diffraction (XRD) results obtained, the characteristic peaks of pure chitosan are seen to be broken and vanished (especially at 15 wt.% V2O5 NPs). This means that when chitosan is filled with different concentrations of V2O5 nanoparticles, chitosan is very weak and simply broken, and only characteristic peaks of V2O5 appear. The average crystal size of V2O5 was determined to be 25.4 nm. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra approve the strong complexation between the nanoparticles and hydrogen bonds in the composite. The study suggests that the addition of zinc and vanadium nanoparticles to chitosan-based films can improve their thermal stability, which has potential applications in various industries, including packaging, biomedical, and environmental. Electrical studies indicate that as the content of embedded zinc/vanadium-filled-in chitosan rises, the ε′ value decreases. The observed decrease in the insulating behavior of chitosan aligns with the notion that doping reduces its insulating properties. This aligns with the enhanced electrical conductivity evident from the DC conductivity measurements. The study demonstrates that incorporating zinc oxide (ZnO) and vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles effectively influences the dielectric properties and relaxation behavior of chitosan. The given results suggest Ternary nano-composite chitosan-ZnO/V2O5 films for specific requirements in optical, optoelectronic applications.

Advantages incorporating V2O5 nanoparticles into PMMA composite membranes for the structural, optical, electrical, and mechanical properties for conductive polymeric membrane applications

Antioxidant-rich brilliant polymeric nanocomposites for quick and efficient non-enzymatic hydrogen peroxide sensor.

In our current research, a new type of functional nanocomposites known as poly(methyl methacrylate/N,N-dimethyl aminoethylmethacrylate/(E)-2-cyano-N-cyclohexyl-3 (dimethylamino) acrylamide) [poly(MMA/DMAEMA/CHAA)] has been developed. These nanocomposites were created using microemulsion polymerization in conjunction with synthesized titanium dioxide (TiO2), and vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles. To understand the physio-chemical characteristics of the poly(MMA/DMAEMA/CHAA) and the metal oxide nanoparticles (MOs) integrated within them, various analytical techniques were employed. These techniques included Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and electrical approaches such as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrical impedance spectra (EIS). Based on the TEM results, nanospheres with a well-defined structure were developed for both the pure polymer and its composite with sizes ranging from 45 to 75 nm. All the TiO2 and V2O5-based nanocomposites showed significantly enhanced electrical attributes, with capacitance values surpassing those of the poly(MMA/DMAEMA/CHAA) nanosphere assemblies by a considerable margin. As a result, both direct electron transfer and direct hydrogen peroxide identification were evaluated for the nanocomposites. The amperometry results demonstrated a lower detection limit of 0.0085 μM and a rapid linear sensitivity in the range of 1 to 800 μM. The greatly improved electrolytic qualities of these nanocomposites make them suitable for various applications in fields such as battery storage, sensors, and biosensors.

Photocatalytic evaluation of chitosan and its derivative coated vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles for photodegradation of methylene blue

Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) is widely utilized as a photocatalyst for the degradation of various pollutants due to its narrow bandgap and convertible oxidation states of vanadium. Here, V2O5 nano-adsorbents coated with functionalized chitosan exhibit a great sensitivity to the absorption of visible light that makes them a suitable candidate to study the photodegradation of methylene blue in the natural atmosphere. Characterization results revealed the synthesis of chitosan-anisaldehyde Schiff base and its presence over the surface of nanoparticles. Fabricated nanoparticles exhibited enhanced optical band gap that increases the photodegradation efficiency by reducing the recombination rate as well as they possess an orthorhombic crystalline phase as confirmed by XRD. Among all fabricated nanoparticles, one of the coated nano-adsorbents, chitosan-anisaldehyde adorned V2O5 (CHA1), having wedge-shaped pores that aided in the photocatalytic destruction of methylene blue illustrates the best degradation efficiency as compared to the bare ones.

Defense responses of the green microalgae Chlorella vulgaris to the vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles

Although vanadium-based nanomaterials have found extensive use in industry, their influence on ecosystems and living organisms is not yet well investigated. In this study, hydrothermal methods were utilized for the synthesis of vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles (V2 O5 NPs). The gained NPs were characterized using XRD, FT-IR, EDS, DLS, SEM and TEM techniques. Subsequently, the toxic effects of V2 O5 NPs on the model green microalgae Chlorella vulgaris were evaluated. According to the obtained results, V2 O5 NPs caused a significant reduction in cell number and biomass production of algae in a dose and time dependent manner. Moreover, flow cytometric analysis confirmed a reduction in the quantity of living cells. Scanning electron microscopy showed plasmolysis and deformation of the cells after exposure to nanoparticles. The photosynthetic pigments and phenolics content exhibited a decrease in comparison with the control sample. Although, non-enzymatic antioxidant system in C. vulgaris displayed an average action, antioxidant enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) showed a dose dependent increasing trend. These intercellular reactions designated the activation of the antioxidant defense system in response to the induced oxidative stress by V2 O5 NPs.

Vanadium Pentoxide Nanoparticles Doped ZnO: Physicochemical, Optical, Dielectric, and Photocatalytic Properties

In this work, vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles (V2O5) derived by the chemical coprecipitation route were used to synthesize various vanadium-doped ZnO nanocomposite samples via the standard solid-state reaction process. The effect of V2O5 nanoparticles on the physicochemical properties of ZnO was discussed. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy combined with energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and UV-visible spectroscopy. A diffuse reflectance spectroscopic approach is described to determine the bandgap energy (Eg) of the samples. The dielectric and photocatalytic characteristics are also examined. The photocatalytic performance of the prepared materials was tested under visible light using methylene blue (MB) as a pollutant dye model. As a result, it is found that the addition of V2O5 enhances the photodegradation of MB. The kinetics of the photodegradation reaction was found to follow a pseudo-first-order model.

Strong enhancement of the optical properties of SiNWs by the deposition of snowball-like V2O5 nanoparticles

In this work, the morphological and optical properties of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles deposited on silicon nanowires (SiNWs) have been investigated. SiNWs are obtained by metal-assisted chemical etching (MACE) method. The deposition of vanadium pentoxide on SiNWs layer was performed by vacuum thermal evaporation system for different durations. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) images show the formation of snowball-like V2O5 nanoparticles on the SiNWs surface. A large condensation of V2O5 elements was observed by increasing the evaporation time. The changes in bonds and chemical composition at the surface of the SiNWs-V2O5 nanocomposites were examined by Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopies. The X-ray Diffraction (XRD) technique revealed the presence of orthorhombic structure of V2O5 layer with good crystallinity. The SiNWs-V2O5 composites show strong visible PL due to the contribution of the radiative band edge transitions of vanadium pentoxide. The emission of V2O5 layer is in the same energy range as that of SiNWs thus leading to a large increase in PL intensity. Optical band gap (Eog) was determined from UV–Vis-IR spectroscopy. The presence of vanadium pentoxide on the SiNWs surface causes an increase in the value of Eog from 1.851 to 2.075 eV. This increase was explained by Burstein-Moss effect.

Synthesis of vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles via laser ablation for biomedical applications

In recent years, vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted considerable interest due to their potential medicinal applications, including cancer therapy, antibiotic resistance and antibacterial activity. Manufacturing V2O5 NPs is a crucial step in developing these applications, and laser ablation in solution has proven to be a particularly successful technique. Following fabrication, colloidal solutions were analyzed using ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) absorption spectra, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). In this work, XRD study revealed that the produced NPs had an orthorhombic phase. Based on the laser energy, nanosized vanadium pentoxide particles were created by laser irradiating a vanadium bulk submerged in a double deionized water (DDW), resulting in spherical particles with average sizes ranging from 15.4 to 33.8[Formula: see text]nm, as shown by TEM micrographs. Conforming to the quantum size concept, the bandgap energy of V2O5 NPs is higher than that of bulk V2O5 due to the decrease in particle size. This study examined the effectiveness of V2O5 NPs against pathogenic bacterial strains Staphylococcus aureus as Gram’s positive bacteria and Escherichia coli as negative Gram’s bacteria. Then, we evaluated anticancer activity of V2O5 NPs against a breast cancer cell line (MCF-7 cells) using MTT assay. The results reveal that the activity of prepared V2O5 NPs against S. aureus is greater than that of E. coli. The findings suggest that prepared NPs can act as an anti-proliferative agent against MCF-7 cells. Subsequently, the produced NPs might be exploited as a future strategy for other biomedical applications.

The paper presents results of studying the possibility of synthesizing aqueous dispersions of the vanadium (V) oxide nanoparticles that retain aggregative stability for a long period. The experiments performed resulted in obtaining tubular nanoparticles of the vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) 50 µm long and 5--10 nm in diameter. Wall thickness of the obtained tubes was 1.1 nm. It was experimentally established that type of the acid used was not affecting the resulting nanoparticles size, but was significantly effecting the shelf life. To increase the nanoparticles optimal shelf life, it is proposed to use the hydrochloric acid solutions as the peptizing agent. This method made it possible not only to increase the system stability, but also to raise the nanoparticles concentration up to 1 % of the mass. In the framework of experiments on studying the obtained particles surface characteristics, it was found that nanoparticles in the range of pH = 3.0--4.2 were negatively charged, and aggregation stability was mainly determined by the electrostatic factor. The proposed chemical technology could be used in industrial production of the vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles in various industries

Structural control of V2O5 nanoparticles via a thermal decomposition method for prospective photocatalytic applications

BackgroundRecently, transition-metal oxides have represented an exciting research topic, especially their fundamental and technological aspects. Here, vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles (V2O5-NPs) were synthesized through the thermal decomposition of ammonium meta-vanadate. In the current study, we investigated the photocatalytic activity of V2O5-NPs to develop and regulate the V2O5 structure for adsorption applications.ResultsThe obtained nanoparticles were inspected by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, and differential thermogravimetric analysis, which proved the formation of the nanorod structure. The ultraviolet–visible absorption spectra revealed a 2.26 eV band gap for V2O5-NPs that correlates with indirect optical transitions. The photocatalytic activity of the V2O5-NPs was investigated by methylene blue (MB) degradation in aqueous solutions. An initial concentration of 25 ppm, a temperature of 40 °C, 40 mg of adsorbent mass, and 1 h of contact time were the optimal conditions for the efficient removal of MB that could reach up to 92.4%. The mechanism of MB photocatalytic degradation by V2O5-NPs is explained.ConclusionsThe photodegradation data better fit with the Langmuir isotherm model. The thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption was spontaneous and endothermic. The reaction kinetics followed the pseudo-second-order model. Thermally prepared V2O5-NPs offer a simple and efficient approach for selective MB removal from an aqueous medium.Graphical abstract

A simple solution combustion method for the synthesis of V2O5 nanostructures for supercapacitor applications

The enhanced power density, long term cycling stability, and fast rate of operation, makes supercapacitors as desirable energy storage devices. Though metal oxides play a significant part in energy storage systems, Vanadium oxides have piqued the interest of electrochemists due to their multi-valency, potential window, unique layer structure, affordability, and plentiful availability. Vanadium pentoxide typically has relatively low specific capacitance due to its weak electrical conductivity and ionic diffusivity. However, these properties can be enhanced by encasing vanadium pentoxide in metal or carbonaceous materials, reducing it to the nanoscale, or changing its shape. On the other hand, the synthetic strategies are mostly essential in raising a compound's specific capacitance. Here, we report the synthesis of vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles using a cost effective solution combustion method. The synthesized material was characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, UV-Vis Spectroscopy, FT-IR Spectroscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Cyclic voltammetry, Galvanostatic Charge-discharge, and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy. The crystallite size of obtained nanoparticles is 28 nm. The specific capacitance of Vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles is 310 F/g and is calculated at 1 A/g using Galvanostatic Charge-discharge method. The obtained specific capacitance is higher than the existing reports on V2O5 nanoparticles.

Preparation of V2O5 and SnO2 Nanoparticles and Their Application as Pollutant Removal

Vanadium pentoxide and Tin dioxide nanoparticles were prepared by hydrothermal methods to remove methylene blue (MB) and bromothymol blue (BTB) dyes). First the prepared nanoparticles were heated at different temperature (90 oC and 500 oC). Then these nanoparticles were characterized by different methods such as UV/Visible, FT-IR Spectroscopy, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Our results explain that vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles appeared high remove activity against both types of organic dyes (MB and BTB) compared to tin dioxide nanoparticles. Furthermore,vanadium pentoxide heating at 90 oC has grain size (86.02 nm) more than that of Tin dioxide (48.02 nm) at same temperature. The activity of vanadium pentoxide is more than that of tin dioxide.may be related to high ionic potential (0.073), compared with Tin dioxide (0.048).

Synthesis of Nanocomposites of V₂OO5©Selenium Nanoparticles and Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes for Antimicrobial Activity.

The authors report the preparation of the nanocomposite comprising of vanadium pentoxide (V₂O5) and selenium (Se) nanoparticles and functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (V₂O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs). Since Se NPs possesses extraordinary physicochemical properties including larger surface area with higher adsorption capacity, V₂O5 NPs were adsorbed onto Se NPs surface through physisorption process (designated as V₂O5@Se NPs). The nanocomposite synthesized hydrothermally was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity. The morphology and microstructure of the nanocomposite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) were employed to analyze the spectral properties of nanocomposite. The microbicidal efficacy of nanocomposite was tested against Gram-negative (G-)ZGram-positive (G+) bacteria and fungus. This is the first report on the synthesis of V₂O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs nanocomposites by chemical method that showed microbicidal effect on micro-organisms. The thiol (-SH) units facilitates the enrichment of V₂O5@Se NPs onto MWCNTs surface. Ultimately, it reflects on the significant antimicrobial activity of V₂O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs.

Electro-optical properties of a liquid crystalline colloidal solution of rod shaped V2O5 nanoparticles and carbon nanotubes in an alternating current electric field

ABSTRACT We study the liquid crystalline phase behaviour of the two-component aqueous colloidal suspensions of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and rod-like vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanoparticles. The phase diagram features a stable nematic phase in a wide range of concentration of solid components. The oriented nematic phase of the two-component suspension was exposed to the action of alternating current electric field. A variation in MWCNTs concentration within 0.01–0.51 wt.% demonstrates a significant increase in the optical response of the system to the applied electric field.

Synthesis of naked vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles.

Vanadium pentoxide is the most important vanadium compound by being the precursor to most vanadium alloys. It also plays an essential role in the production of sulfuric acid as well as in metal-ion batteries and supercapacitors. In this paper, pulsed laser ablation in liquids is used to synthesize “naked” vanadium pentoxide nanostructures. The resulting particles take up “nearly-spherical” and “flower-like” morphologies, composed of α-V2O5 and β-V2O5 crystalline phases. Even “naked”, the nanostructures are stable in time with a zeta potential of −51 ± 7 mV. In order to maximize the production of vanadium pentoxide nanostructure, the optimal repetition rate was determined to be @ ∼6600 Hz when irradiating a pure vanadium target in DI-water. This corresponds to a cavitation bubble lifetime of around ∼0.15 ms. At that repetition rate, the production reached ∼10 ppm per minute of irradiation. Finally, from the characterization of the α-V2O5 and β-V2O5 nanostructures, the surface energy of each phase has been carefully determined at 0.308 and 1.483 J cm−2, respectively. Consequently, the β-phase was found to display a surface energy very close to platinum. The exciton Bohr radius has been determined at 3.5 ± 0.7 nm and 2.0 ± 0.6 nm for α-V2O5 and β-V2O5 phases, respectively.

Microwave radiated comparative growths of vanadium pentoxide nanostructures by green and chemical routes for energy storage applications

Supercapcitors are prominent energy storage devices an account of its high-power density, long cycle life and superior rate capability. Metal oxides play an important role in energy storage devices, while vanadium pentoxide is most promising due to variable oxidation states, wide potential window, unique layer structure etc. In general, specific capacitance of a vanadium pentoxide is very low due to poor ionic diffusivity and electrical conductivity but can improve drastically by encapsulating vanadium pentoxide with metals or carbonaceous materials or by decreasing the size to nanoscale or by modifying the morphology. On the other hand, the methodologies employed play a crucial role in increasing specific capacitance of a particular compound. Here we report a microwave assisted synthesis of vanadium pentoxide nanoparticles by green and chemical synthetic approach. The prepared samples were characterized by UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fourier-Transform Infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction studies, Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy. The major peak in Uv–vis spectra confirms six-fold coordination state of V+5 with square pyramidal configuration. FTIR and XRD analysis concludes orthorhombic structure of synthesized nanoparticles with crystal size ranging from 20 to 25 nm. The anions and cations of an electrolyte is also play a crucial role in determination of specific capacitance of a particular materials and is in the order of 2 M KOH > 2 M LiOH > 2 M Na2SO4 > 2 M NaOH and are in accordance with hydration sphere radius, solvated ion size, ion shape and conductivity of particular ion. On the other hand calcinations temperature and concentration of specific electrolyte play a crucial role in determination of specific capacitance of a particular materials and is as follows 6 M KOH (600 °C) > 6 M KOH (400 °C) > 2 M KOH (600 °C) > 2 M KOH (400 °C). The V2O5-green modified electrode is showing excellent electrochemical performance than V2O5-chemical modified electrodes due to less agglomeration of oxide, high percentage of vanadium over the surface leads high intercalation and de-intercalation of K+ ions from electrolyte into V2O5 lattices.

Structural, Optical and Magnetic Characterization of Vanadium Pentoxide Nanoparticles Synthesized in a Gelatin Medium

The V2O5 nanoparticles were synthesized from VCl3 precursor via a rather facile sol-gel route in gelatin medium followed by calcination at different temperatures of 400, 500 and 600 °C. The prepared samples were studied for their structural, morphological, optical and magnetic properties. The results showed that the synthesized particles consist mainly of crystalline α-V2O5 orthorombic phase. The calcination at higher temperatures caused an increment in the amount of other vanadium oxides minor phases, namely β-V2O5, and also increased the crystallite size from about 22 to 29 nm. The lattice contraction observed on calcination at higher temperatures may be associated to the the lower density of oxygen vacancies. The optical studies revealed the effect of raising the calcination temperature as an red shift in their direct band gap energy from 2.92 to 2.77 eV due to the size effects. The magnetic characterization of the sample calcined at 400 °C demonstrated a weak ferromagnetic behavior with saturation magnetization of about 0.14 emu/g induced probably by the oxygen vacancies.
